You know what really grinds my gears?! How some people attempt to use a peaceful sports event like the Olympics in Sochi as an excuse to bash and discredit Russia and their human rights violations, such as the gay and lesbian rights violations that have been blown out of proportions through various news articles such as Stuart Williams article published in Yahoo! Sports called
UN's Ban in Olympic gay rights plea, US warns of toothpaste bombs. Now just to make it clear, I have nothing against homosexuals and believe that everyone has the the right to love who ever they want and deserve to be treated equally and the same as everyone else. But what makes me mad is that some of the articles that have come out such as Stuart Williams, that bash Russia for banning protests during the Olympics (which as stated in the news articles, is also against the Olympic committee policy), so people focus on the Olympic events. Protesting during the Olympics goes against the whole point of what the Olympics stand for! If Countries can observe the
Olympic Truce and stop fighting, people should be able to stop protesting for a couple weeks and focus on and support their Olympians as they compete! If anyone is interested in reading the article, the link is at the bottom of the post.
Not to mention who are we to go into other countries and state that their beliefs and values and wrong and that they should adapt our way of thinking, when we don't like people immigrating to Canada and attempt us to change our traditions to meet their beliefs, its hypocritical!
